Every year, during a full week in the summer, we provide an exciting, and stimulating Christ-based program for the children.
It's a great time for one and all, as well as being a wonderful means of outreach to the surrounding community.

VBS - 2009
Well it happened again, from July 13 – 17 we really rocked the dock with CROCODILE DOCK, where fearless kids shone God’s light. And our 23 children really did shine, nearly as much as our terrific volunteers who in donating their time and talents showed the children that:
GOD IS WITH US – We were with Moses as God spoke to him through the “burning bush”. (Yes, we really did have a burning bush!)
GOD IS POWERFUL – We helped God visit the plagues on Pharaoh. We were frogs, locusts, flies. We turned the water to blood. We saw the livestock die, we threw dead fish at Pharaoh, and had a great time putting boils on him. The best part was when we placed all our fears in balloons, stuffed the balloons in Pharaoh’s robes. Then we burst the balloons - just as God, with His Power, can burst our all fears.
GOD DOES WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL - We were Israelites hiding in our “blood” marked houses as we waited while God sent the final plague on Egypt. We were safe in our homes as God told us we would be. By God’s hand our enemy was defeated.
GOD GIVES US LIFE – We heard the story of Jesus’ death on the cross - but more importantly his resurrection. We put all our sins in garbage bags and then draped them over the cross and watched as Jesus came and took all the garbage bags on Himself and left us saved.
GOD CARES FOR US - We again became the Israelites fleeing from Egypt, following a cloud by day and a star by night; and we again saw God’s power as He parted the Red Sea for us to cross and escape our enemy.
After all this, the shout could be heard throughout the Church of “FEAR NOT”. We really learned that we had nothing to fear when we know that God is on our side
During the week, we also watched for “God Sightings”, and when we shared our sightings a light was placed on the dock. By the end of the week, we could really see the proof that God is indeed all around us.
We participated in a mission project called “Kid-to-Kid”, which is sponsored by the International Bible Society. We made stuffed turtles, which carry the message “God Cares” and we also included our own messages of hope and love. These stuffties will be distributed to children who have lost everything, through floods, hurricanes, etc.
None of this would have been possible without the compassion and love of a great group of leaders and teachers. Philip again excelled leading our opening program each day. (Luckily, he did lose his Louisiana Bayou accent before Sunday). Roy Clayton kept our opening and closing programs on track - doing a great job on sound and light. Oh, and how could we forget Philip’s trusty side-kick “Skeeter” (Roy Hunt).
Our group of Bayou Guides were great and although their own special groups kept them on their toes all the time, they accepted their roles with grace and by the end of the week I think they were nearly kids themselves. (Tired ones of course!) Special hugs go out to Betty Tarka, Margaret Rutherford, Susan and Melissa Denis and Roy Hunt.
Janette Scobie and Amiel Satvedi wore off all the pent up energy with Gator Games on the front lawn of the Church.
Kelly Johnson and Eugene Tarr did a marvelous job at Bible Bayou. Without their great story telling, there would have been nothing to build on.
Bev Thompson worked really hard in the kitchen providing both the children and grateful leaders with delicious and nutritious snacks.
Ruth Philip and Jean Maguire did a terrific job at the Dock Side Drive-In as they brought the message each day into the 21st century.
Angela Lindsay starred in Gator Crafts as she helped the children make meaningful and fun crafts to remind them of all our lessons. They also made our mission project here.
Debbie Clarke had a lot of fun taking some awesome pictures of the children and then incorporating them into the finale as Spotlight Drama. The kids really enjoyed seeing themselves and their new friends on the “big screen”.
We were also blessed with the help of some great young people, Bill and June Stetson’s granddaughter, Rebecca Jen, also Bud and Bev Thomas’ grandchildren, Graham, Andrea and Kendra. All four of these kids made their grandparents proud.
As well as all the above people, I want to thank our whole congregation for your wonderful support. Without you, this great VBS would not have happened. Your generous commitment of goods and treasure was a huge help in ensuring we had one of the best VBS’ ever.
See you next year!!!!
